The Mississippi Department of Archives and History, in response to concern over the spread of corona virus, has made the decision to close the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians through the month of March. As a result we have made the decision to cancel the 2020 Powwow and to hold the next Natchez Powwow on March 27-28, 2021. All of the head staff members who were scheduled for 2020 have agreed to serve those same duties for the 2021 Natchez Powwow.
Traditional Native American dancing, foods, and crafts will be found in abundance at the 2021 Natchez Powwow March 27-28, at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians.
This will be the 32nd time the Grand Village has hosted the annual event. "This Powwow is significant because of its location at an actual mound site," said Jim Barnett, director of the Grand Village. "Natchez Indians lived here and danced here and that long history makes this all the more special."
